Carillon celebrates Giving Tuesday with a financial donation to charitable organizations

CONCORD, Ontario, December 1, 2015 – Carillion is pleased to participate in GivingTuesday, a global movement for giving and volunteering that takes place each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Based on an employee nomination process, Carillion, through its parent company Carillion PLC, recognizes 160 charitable and not-for-profit organizations with a monetary donation every year. Nominations are welcome twice a year, the second of which coincides with GivingTuesday – a time of year when it is especially important to think about others. This year, over 500 employee nominations were received worldwide. More than 30 organizations nominated by Canadian and Caribbean colleagues were awarded approximately $1,000 CDN (the equivalent of £500) each.      “We are pleased to celebrate GivingTuesday with a number of donations from the Carillion Charitable Fund and support community regeneration and social value year-round through the implementation of community needs plans for each of our contract sites,” says Carillion Canada President and CEO Simon Buttery. “One of our key responsibilities is to invest directly in the communities in which we work and live – not just to ensure they get a fair share of the economic benefits, but also to bring about lasting social change where it is needed most.”

In addition to the Carillion Charitable Fund where employees are encouraged to rally for their favourite cause, Carillion offers six paid days for employees to volunteer with organizations that are important to them.

"We're really happy to see the momentum for GivingTuesday, and especially the number of businesses joining in to celebrate this year," says Lys Hugessen, president of GIV3, one of the organizers of GivingTuesday. "As Carillion is demonstrating, this is a great time to be announcing donations, engaging employees in giving and shining a light on the wonderful organizations they support and their impact in the community."
